Plea for Help for my Xmas List

Hey hoo,

Guess, what?

Yes, this is Arccie actually speaking. I'm not dead. (groans of disappointment are not appreciated thank you very much!!!)

I've started working on my fanfics again, so I'll try and be productive and actually publish something in my other journal sometime soon. I feel like such a slacker. I think it's been about 3 months since I actually did any writing (and I have soo forgotten my writing style, I've mangled it with other influences)

Anyway, I need some help to pick out my christmas present. I'm shipping over an anime boxset, but I don't know what to choose. Any help or thoughts at all will be of great help.

What do I like in an anime series?
Well, pretty (slashable) boys are always appreciated.
Good quality art/animation (preeety is good)
Good plot line, with an acceptable satisfying end (no...build up to the climax, build up build up and then "flop")...and when I mean plot, I mean actual plot PoT crack story lines are OK, but EXCEL saga, not really my thing.
I probably prefer action series, or at least series that have a fair deal of actionable scenes (I like Fruits Basket, but examining my collection it seems one of the rare series that isn't full of action)
Oh, and preferable main characters that aren't annoying i.e. don't want to make me smother myself with a pillow in embarassment of them or that spend the entire time bragging.

This is the list of possible animes:

(ones I actually know something about)
Outlaw Star
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Rurouni Kenshin
Escaflowne
Rahxephon
Sorcerer Hunters
Peacemaker
Pilot Candidate
GadGuard
Wolf's Rain
Generator Gawl
Chrono Crusade
Hack Sign
Arjuna

(ones I've heard are good, but know nothing about)
Berserk
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Yukikaze
Lodoss War
Aquarian Age
Betterman
Soul Hunter
Wild Arms
Dai-Guard
Android Kikaider
Kaleido Star
Key the Metal Idol

...Yes I know that's a long list, but I'm an indecisive person, and I'm all like "ooh ANIME!"

Any other series recommendations would be cool, and I can take them into consideration for birthday and christmas's later on.
I really want GSeed, Saiyuki and Soukyu no Fafner (the main character is so almost another Kira), but as no box sets, it's too expensive to get them shipped over here.

Oh christmas time, oh christmas time, why are you making my life difficult?

[identity profile] lil-blossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Kenshin! But I'm biased since it's the one that got me back into the anime phase when I fell out of it as a child.
Pretty boy with a swored *drools* he so owns me.
I like escaflowne too... I maul Dilando to death, that crazy, ego-centric, vain, pyromaniac.
I read Rahxephon... but I really really really hated the girl... so very much...she was a really big turn off. Worse than Sakuno in my opinion, but maybe she's not as bad in the anime.

Now I have to plot your present... I need your address too. I sent you mine.

P.S. And we need to plot our joint journal, he need to create CRACK!

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
*snuggles B-kins*

(look I finally managed to decide on a nickname...like munchkin, but you)

Kenshin is a very big pull, and it looks very shiny, but there's 3 box sets for the series.
So unfair. I want it all now!!!
I've heard good things about Escaflowne, as well as bad things (i.e. they kind of let the animation go at times)

You're soo reading my mind.
Our journal must be produced

I have pressie for you I hope you like it as it isn't something really cool/big/wonderful or anything.

*sad sigh*

I'll email you my address as soon as I have to restart the computer (can't get to my email currently while I have bt running, and the torrent I'm currently running is a bit tempremental so pausing it results in no downloading for another couple of hours.)

Try not to exhaust yourself too much.

[identity profile] lil-blossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So my nickname has been decided then ^_^. While most people go by a nickname that everyone knows... I have a different one from each person. lets see, mi-chan, li-chan, nee-chan, and B-Kins, I think I can deal with them all.
Kenshin is so very shiny, it makes me happy. Escaflowne was pretty much me going all gaga over Dilando. I seem to like pyros... Kurei, Hao, Dilando... so on such.

Journal will be fun and cracktastic.

And present from you will make me happy. You make me happy on your own, the fact that you're bothering with it makes me bounce.

when the address is sent... my mail spammage will come.

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose it's because you can't be everyone's sister, and using a japanese nickname for you might imply I actually have some sort of understanding of the language, so I'll stick with the home grown variety of endearments...
...plus you're munchkin like (not a reference to height in anyway)

Isn't there something "off" with Escaflowne's noses though i.e. really big and distracting?

...and my address is on the way to your email account

*pokes*
How's the stress life keeping you?

...are we still planning to work on that lego plot?

[identity profile] lil-blossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yes... there is something off with their noses... but, hey my brother bought that series so I saw it for free.

I got your address, and now we can snail mail, yay.

This week was Hell actually. FLunked a bunch of crap because everything happened this week... meaning I could do some of everything but not all of what I needed to do... make calculus and physics and chemistry go away! I cry at it -_-. ANd my god the rehersals and crap, just got back from curling and Japanese dance practise today... ebleh... kill me now.

We are so doing the lego plot, I just need to write it. But it will get done. How can we deny Yoh and us crackheads the joy of a lego shoe fetish? I think not.

[identity profile] lil-blossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Pssst... I still like Kenshin.

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
FREE entertainment is always the best. There's never as many flaws when you didn't fork out the money for it yourself.

Snail mail...I haven't heard that term in a while.
I think the last letter I got that wasn't a bank statement was from my grandmother.
Oo

*pats B-kins*
Don't you hate it when they do that to you? Society needs a new rule: "no more than one major event can happen per week"

Does it look like your schedule will calm down any time soon?

I'm not sure how much stress you can take before you'll be mean and grumpy (I've seen it happen) I don't want B-kins to chnage.

There is no denying Yoh. If we did, I think we might get an unpleasant visit from Hao.

I really want Kenshin, but it seems like it's come down to price considerations too. (I'll just have to wait and see if the price goes down by my birthday next year)

[identity profile] lil-blossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I'm going to send you a letter one day.... when I have some time...

Society needs a new rule: "no more than one major event can happen per week"
I'd campaigne for that like potition sign smack down.

My schedule... I have three modes. Busy, Really Busy, and OMGKILLMENOW busy. Last week I was at at mode three and this week I'm at 2... so it's better? I think it'll simmer down to just busy after this weekend (curling comp to finish up and the what not).

I'm never grumpy ^_^... Even when I want to throttle something I'm pleasent in appearances... No one's really seen me actually mad. I just get annoyed and irked at times, and maybe semi-pissed )not that I let it show).

But if Hao showed up on my doorstep I'd have to force him to do strange things to amuse me... or plant ideas into his head about Yoh.

My family just gives me money... so I never have to worry about these things ^_^

[identity profile] apple-addiction.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my gosh, if you like action manga, you've GOT to buy Samurai Deeper Kyo. I'm collecting it as well. It's funny like hell in the beginning then it gets kind of philosophical (not the lame, corny kind). The drawing is not bad too and the characs are endearing ^^ There're gigantic plot twists like everywhere so there's no chance of it getting boring. It hasn't ended yet but I think it's approaching the end. (I'm following it faithfully every week ^^) It's one of my favourite manga. (Do NOT, under any circumstance, watch the anime though) I think it's definitely worth a buy!

[identity profile] apple-addiction.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, sorry, please ignore the first comment because if you're buying anime, forget about Samurai Deeper Kyo. The anime is total s*** and it doesn't do justice to the manga at all. I think you can try out Black Cat but I'm not sure if the DVD for that has come out yet because currently there're like only 5 episodes. ^^

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Is SDK a bad storyline in the anime? Or is it just bad in comparison with the manga?
Black Cat has actually been released? Cool.

[identity profile] apple-addiction.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Bad storyline, bad drawing, bad characterization... In fact, I think it's what's discouraging people from reading SDK, becasue it's really an awesome manga.

Yup, black cat is released but the dvd I'm not so sure.

By the way, I'm going to stalk friend your journal for more Fujiryo goodies. Hope you don't mind. ^^

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure Black Cat's been released. It's still being subbed, and AnimeSuki still hosts the links for it (something they never do for licensed animes).

Yay, stalker friend.

I never mind getting to know new people.

As for my creation of more FujiRyo...well I'm hoping to manage 1 thing per week for the next couple of months...unless I manage to get a job of course.
*fingers crossed*

[identity profile] apple-addiction.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you mean released as in sold, I guess not, sorry. ^^

You would love Peacemaker Kurogane, your tastes sound similar to mine. :) The crack in PMK made me die laughing (you haven't lived until you watch the carousel-music scene).

I'll tell you which episode that's in if you really need me to ... *scratches head* Too tired to go look for it now.

Besides that, Chrno Crusade was great, but the ending was ... hmm. I thought it was a good way to go, but you may disagree, because a lot of people did.

.hack//sign is slow. The story moves along painfully slowly. I've abandoned my efforts to finish the story already, and I tried up to somewhere around episode 8 or 9 (or was it 12?). However, .hack//twilight was good. :)

Escaflowne was neat, but definitely like Fushigi Yuugi. Go for that if you want long epic love stories.

If you like sports anime (hey, you like PoT, who knows?) try Whistle, Dear Boys, Major. :) And if you enjoy slice-of-life, PLEASE, get Genshiken (makes fun of otakus) or Honey and Clover (art school students searching for a meaning in life).

There are a lot more, and I'm surprised Fullmetal Alchemist isn't on your list. Feel free to ask if you would like a blow-by-blow on recent fansub releases, I'm pretty much up to speed on most series. :) (Not all, but most.)

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Peacemaker does look shiny...

But I have an aweful feeling Tetsu will spend the entire time annoying the hell out of me...

Chrno Crusade does look good...and I've heard something about the ending...

*sigh* Whay are there so many choices?

...I have Whistle *evil laughter*
Oh I love the adorableness of Shou

I also have FMA, GREAT isn't it?

:D

Thanks for the help.

Certainly helped me narrow down the list alot.

*chuckle* Glad I could help. Feel free to ask with specific questions if you want to. I refrained from saying anything about those I didn't know about, but I'm good for a try on most series. :)
love: (Default)

[personal profile] love 2005-11-11 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
By the way, I wasn't annoyed with Tetsu or anything ... but then again, I'm not a huge PMK fan like I am a PoT fan ... *shrug*

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Really?
You weren't annoyed by him?

I suppose everyone has different standrds of annoyance.
He was fun and cute and then he kept opening his mouth (in the first episode that is) and just being very loud and embarassing.

*shrugs*
It was probably just because iy was the first episode.

...I ended up making a decision on anime. Unfortunately for me, the deciding factor came down to cost.
So I'm really hoping some of the other good animes I had my eye on will come down in cost by my birthday.

*fingers crossed*

Ooops!
Don't know how I managed to copy and paste those last 2 sentences.

[identity profile] meggiebaby81.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I am a Greg Ayres fangirl -- Chrono Crusade!!! *clear throat* THat and the story will make you cry....it is the best story I have seen in awhile. Seriously...and c'mion a demon who is adorabel both small and large? It's true love ....((If you didn't know Greg is teh voice of Chrono))

Again with Peacemaker, greg brought me in and the story kept me. I love men with swords....alos Samurai 7 is awseome...*hides the credits where it says Greg's name*

Okay! I admit it! I stalk the man through anime...but he did Kaworu Nagisa in Direcotrs cut Eva....the man has skills! ANd is SO awesome!!!

I own Wolfs Rain and Samurai Deeper Kyo. Both are FABULOUS. Again in Kyo -- smexy men with swords....you gotta love it!

GSeed and GSeed Destiny are AMAZING....and I think GSeed is Boxed. *blinks* pretty sure...I will check and get back to you. Saiyuki is lovely. Um with reload...um...good story...BAD dubbing...*mutters about it being Hakkai and not Hawk Eye* Sorry....mini rant. But everyone MUST own Saiyuki. *nod nod*

Okay and I have now babbled your ear off...sorry bout that!!

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Chrno Crusade is looking like a pretty interesting story (slightly iffy about the ending though...still...demons!!!)

...he did Kaworu *loves*
So shiny and pretty and Kaworu!!!

I want so many animes...I really need a job to support my habit.

What's the storyling of Samurai Deeper Kyo like? Good plot? Annoying female characters abound?

OOOOHHHHHH
If you find a GSeed box set can you tell me where. I want I want I want.
Such preeetyness.
Same thing with Saiyuki...can only find a set of 9 box sets to make up the series...I want it all at once.
*pouts*

Thanks for the halp.

OMG GET RUROUNI KENSHIN GET IT GET IT GET ITTT!!!!

*prods you with katana*

RUROUNI KENSHIN TO THE nTH DEGREE!!

BRILLIANT ART, MAGNIFICENT STORYLINE (though it deviates slightly from the manga), WONDERFUL SEIYUU AND GENIUS MUSIC!

It's the benchmark I set all anime and manga by. (=

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
*sulks*

Lots of people have prodded meinto wanting Rurouni Kenshin...BUT I CAN"T GET IT RIGHT NOW

*sobs*

The choice for anime came down to price consideration *kicks stupid price inflations*

Hopefully the prices for the box sets will come down soon.
ext_9946: (Default)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
*smiles proudly*

Yay RK! ♥

awwwr~ *hugs and feeds cookies*

*sigh* I hope it comes down soon too. Because when price inflations go down the global economy will have a brighter future. And so will my world.

no, my world is so NOT based on anime and whatnot, okay?

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-11-20 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Rurouni Kenshin just looks sooo shiny and action packed and amusing and preety...

For me it's price inflations (who wants to pay $30 for a DVD with only 3 episodes on it, the one and only Australian anime provider is in desperate need of competition) and the fcat that the american:australian dollar ratio could be a lot nicer.

and if it was your whole world, who's really blaming you

^_^
ext_9946: (Default)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2005-11-21 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's preeettyyyyyyyyyyy~ Yes.

THIRTY BUCKS FOR THREE FREAKING EPISODES?! *patpat* (you can come visit singapore...even though anime rates here suck like shit too.)

hehehh. but it would be a very nice world, ne?

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Preeety ist good!

The prices in Australia are so freaking unreal as to be ridiculous, just because there's only the one anime ancoding company here.
*sad sigh*
What's worse is the fact that they refuse to do any of the yaoi animes. They've even refused to do Gravitation and Yami no Matsuei (which are really very tame) because they don't think it has an audience (I think they believe only teenage boys watch anime).
so ANNOYING.
I will get to Singapore oneday, spend all my money on anime, see the sights, buy anime...you know the usual
;)

a world based onanime would be like a dream come true, stupid society that requires us to do work in RL
ext_9946: (Default)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear...I don't think they do any of the yaoi stuff in Singapore either. They do sell Gravitation the manga, though. At highly overpriced rates.

Yeah! I mean, we'd never have to work, we won't be fat, and we get to exercise our voyeuristic tendencies all day long!

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-12-03 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Its soo sad.
I mean, first of all the US picks and edits what it decides is suitable for the rest of the english speaking world, and then production companies don't even take on the projects that are really tame...it's not even like they're for hard core yaoi addicts (there's no actual sex "on camera", the impications of the relationship in YnM is barely mentioned...)

now work, no need for healthy diets, only need to exercise for recreational purposes...and watch smut, as well as some other stuff, all day...ahhh paradise...BTW whyare we talking about this under strikes?
ext_9946: (Default)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2005-12-03 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
The US does?! ...*checks box set* Doesn't say anything clearly here, honestly. I haven't watched/read YnM yet.

*sigghhhh* no work, lots of chocolates and ice cream and fattening things but we'd still not have to get fat. Heaven, indeed. I have no idea why we're talking under strikes either. Because we like abusing our html?

[identity profile] moonlightstarfi.livejournal.com 2005-11-26 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bit new here, so you probably haven't seen me yet, so...yeah. ^_^

Personally, I think you should get Rurouni Kenshin, I already have the entire set. >.<

Sign up for eBay (you'll probably get the entire series for just $40-$60, and others for around less....) ^.^

Well...that's my suggestion, I suppose.

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hey hoo,
Newbies and friends are always welcome.
Really want Rurouni Kenshin now...and I am doing it through Amazon. It's just that with Australian to American dollar conversion rates plus shipping $50 ends up being closer to $100.
Oh well, I'll get it eventually.

...sorry it took me a while to reply, you must have replied during the great lj comment notification blackout.

^_^

Stuff?

[identity profile] fallen-white.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Samurai Champloo if there is it (unless you've already got it)? It's really hilarious and the art's pretty good. I'd even suggest Saiyuki, more for the voice actors than the art. The art in Saiyuki is okay, but the manga is definitly better (you know how there are those anime that are much better as manga.. but then when you watch it, the voice actors just capture the character so beautifull and *sigh* ) ...Sorry if this is no help/too late!

Re: Stuff?

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Samurai Champloo huh?
I've seen the first few episodes of that and it looked pretty enjoyable, just akind of a bit abstract...though I notice a lot of animes are pretty slow to actually get into the plot.
Oo
Saiyuki for the voice actors rather than the art? English or japanese?
(yeah I've noticed that many animes based on manga just don't quite reach the same level of quality as the original manga)

No problem, itmay be too late for this christmas, but it's all going under comsideration for my birthday and next christmas and the christmas after that...so really, it's never too late.
Thanks.

^_^

Re: Stuff?

[identity profile] fallen-white.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Uhm, japanese definitely for Saiyuki XD English VA's are never good.... well, maybe occasionally. Uhnm... yeah... >__> You're stories are luffly!! >w

Re: Stuff?

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm...it's sad that englsih VA's commonly seem to suffer a serious lack of talent.
*shrugs*
What can you do?
As long as they don't chop or mis translate the juicy bits I'm generally happy with subs at least.

Uhnm... yeah... >__> You're stories are luffly!! >w
...good save...
;)
Just kidding.
Thanks for the lovely compliment.

^_^
