Grr! I can't quite decide how annoyed to be at the moment.
I got a comment about how a couple of my characters are completely OOC, and sure alright I can see that, but I asked for whythis person felt that way. Basically I got this entire long note back that said a oneshot has to utilise the characters canon characterisations otherwise they were completely unrecognisable, because if a mulitpart scenario isn't set up to support the altered personality then it was just OOC.
I'll agree with some of the points. Heck, if you're going to give the chracter a major personality change without background than I'd say it was OOC, just using the characters names.
However, with age comes maturity or at least some change. Over time characters grow as events occur in their life. We don't expect Fuji to always find his sadistic pleasure in watching people collapse from Inui juice. Shou (although likely to remain soccer obsessed) will not be forever training at 12am in front of an outdoor TV. Quatre will probably outgrow his pink shirts. Hikaru (as unlikely as it seems now) just might grow out of his bleached bangs.
Am I being unreasonable in thinking that if you set something at a later time than the series you shouldn't have to account for every little thing that growing up has altered in your perspective of a character? I'm not talking about something like Ryoma losing his will to play tennis or Aya becoming a very happy go lucky pool boy. I'm talking about the smoothing or intensifying of some personality triats over time. Say, maybe Aya only shapens his Katana twice a day instead of three times a day...or Matt only goes to the bathroom to check his hair once every couple of hours instead of every hour...

I'm too worked up over this, I know. Maybe I can just go around and label them all AU. At least the complaints I'd get then would be interesting...
Reviewer: What the heck? You're story summary said AU, but this is just teh normal stuff. Do you KNOW what an AU is]
Me: Of course I know what an AU is. It is putting the characters in a different setting from canon, or changing the characters to change the canon storyline. As mine would be after the canon and the characters aren't 100% canon they're AU'd and gone on strike until further notice. Please enjoy the temporary insanity that comes with this.
