Ok, so here's te deal.

Yesterday, Sydney was buffeted by gale force winds.

Extremely beautiful to wake up to. The sound of the wind whistling through the gorge and bending trees 90 degrees. Stunning! When I got out of bed I spent half an hour just watching it.

Then we lost power.

From what my sister saw, it seems like the substation blew up. Yes, you read right. Blew up. She was driving past and all of a sudden there were sparks and flames shooting up everywehere. Luckily it was self contained, so no big fire resulted from it.

There was however 2 other big fires in close proximity to our house (close relatively ~15km, with gale force winds and the like).

So the sky was a beautiful orange/brown, and the air caught in your throat it was so thick with smoke.

So we had no power, which (because we're on tank water)meant we had no water, were listening to a battery operated radio as they talked about the fires getting closer to our place and basically raging out of control, telling people to prepare their properties in case of fire (remember we had no water) and in the late afternoon there was a cautious call to prepare for evacuation.

My, that was fun.

So now my family has packed up their most precious belongings in one bag, sitting around the radio (which seemed most concerned about the fact that the nearest big city had, "Oh my" lost power to 30,000 homes, not the fact that there were fires threatening people in a less poopulated area.

*sigh*

Luckily they DID get the fire under control, so no evacuation.

Yet we were still without power all night and they promised us power this morning.

Still no power (and thus no water).

And they have no time when they think they'll have power back in the region. Could be a couple of hours, could be next week!

(Thus why I am now camped out at my older sister's place for the day, mostly so I can shower, but also so I can cook food. Cold dinner in a room barely illuminated by candles wasn't exactly on my list of desired for the moment)

But it's so STUPID.

Ok I understand, I mean, sure you want to get the major populated areas up and running, but in terms of needs, I think they should have prioritised a little bit better.

We have NO water! NONE!

Should be a bit higher on your list of priorities that we do have water.

Che!

I'm really hoping they get round to fixing us up really soon, otherwise we're going to lose a couple of thousand dollars worth of foods that are currently being stored in our fridges and refrigerators.

Gah!

So anyway, if you don't hear from me, you know why.

Love you all.

What a great way to start my break from uni.

EDIT Ok, I now have power and internet acces again. YAY!

Gah and I was worried about being run over.

Was worried since mum mentioned Picton being on fire, considering your proximity and all but am glad that you and your family are alright.

It bites how power is placed higher than water. It's just a bureaucratic scam. Since urban areas have higher population density they don't want to lose votes especially with the upcoming election.

About tomorrow, I don't mind if we take a raincheck on it, considering the circumstances.

Hope it all gets resolved soon.

Well in our case power is water, but the brainless person you talk to at Integral Endergy is like, oh, no power, yep we still have another 40,000 homes with no power. We'll get tround to you eventually.

Noooooo...you can't do that.
I want to get out of the house.
Staring at the walls gets boring quite quickly when that's all there is to do.
(alternatively I could study but I think that's even worse than staring at the walls in terms of boredom).

So movie still on tomorrow, please. As long as you don't mind that I can't bring you any pretties as I have no access to the computers with anime on.

...though I was thinking, we might want to try for the 2.40 rather than the 4.30, so we miss the after school crowds, which would probably mean we should meet up earlier than 1-ish.

My mobile now has charge on it, so if the power's not on and thus I'm not on msn tonight, we can work it out by phone.
