err...meep? (TMNT)
Oct. 17th, 2005 12:26 amOoookaaaay...
*deep breath*
*whimpers*
*deeper breath*
I, have just read one of the most disturbing pieces of fanfiction ever.
Not because it was full of horror images of spiders crawling from peoples brains, or eating their murdered parents, or anything else of that horrifc type.
It was not even the fact it was poorly written Mary Sue insert (or any sort of Mary Sue or nasty female character stealing/converting the obviously gay main character story)
It was in fact quite well written and mildly entertaining.
That was, it was mildly entertaining until I realsied it was a Teenage Mutant Turtle fic (not so bad)...that had SLASH IMPLICATIONS!!!

So so so very scary
...how did it happen?!
Yesterday, I was oh so innocuously recommended a Harry Potter fanfiction story.
It...being a mildly interesting story that was quite well written, sent me out to investigate this author's other stories.
Noting that she appeared to have written a fair few TMNT fics, I clicked on the most recent one, and I was enjoying the introspectve writing of a character I had never even considered writing or reading about before...when it hit me...underneath that pretty writing was the implication of humanoid turtles...doing it.
*shudder*
I think I may have ruined one of my favourite childhood shows. I know I'll never be able to watch it again, without speculating on how they spend their time off teh set.
...still, the 80s version of teh TMNTs was so much better than the recent redo where they seem to be able to travel across dimensions, go to the furthest reaches of space...and at times totally lose Shredder....but most of all...the turtles in the 80s at least HAD EYES, not blank white diamondy things. Plus the personalities were better. None of this serious angst and lack of humourous Michaelangelo.
...this is another of my pet rants...
I actually got a class discussion running over the merits if the 80s cartoons versus the recent ones.
Can you imagine, a whole class full of 17 and 18 year olds sitting in what was supposed to be our biology lesson, talking about how they'd totally ruined a cartoon released over 20 years ago..."and where the heck were their eyes?" Needless to say our teacher wasn't all that amused.
It was great to rant though.
...right...what was I talking about again...
Oh yeah...the trauma...
(stop looking at me like that, just because I'm easily sidetracked and still love my favourite childhood cartoon is no reason believe I wasn't actually traumatised by the entire thing. I was. Really!)
Anyway, if you'd like to share the trauma, or just want to know what the heck I'm talking about so you canogle the turtle men getting it on ignore it and once again go about your daily routine, see HERE
Rightio, I'm now off to pretend I'm doing that thing that people tell me is called study.
^_^

on 2005-11-13 12:24 pm (UTC)For once I'm so glad that clicking on that link won't have any effect because anything with fanfiction in its URL is banned from my Internet.

on 2005-11-14 03:47 pm (UTC)...Anything interesting under there?
That's a really useful talent.
I want eyes on stalks. I really need to see what's down the back of my desk, but it's too heavy and I'm too afraid to just put what I can fit of my hand down there (I'm pretty sure I'll find something that bites)
But...really, you're missing out here.
You're wasting an opportunity to suffer lifelong trauma just because it's such a disturbing thought.
I can email it to you if you want...?

on 2005-11-15 11:05 am (UTC)....I've suffered enough lifelong trauma, courtesy of one of my friends who actually reads the Lord of the Rings slash!
*seriously reconsidering letting my email be seen on my userinfo page*
